Alfred Wayne Conroy

Alfred Wayne Conroy, affectionately known as "Big Al," passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023, at the age of 80. Born on August 6, 1943, in Maryland, he was the beloved son of the late Bertha Porter and Thomas Conroy Sr.

Alfred's dedication to serving others was evident from a young age. He developed a deep passion for the fire department, spending countless hours at the local firehouse engine 15, shining shoes, and listening intently to the brave firefighters' stories. This dedication led him to join the Fire Department as an Emergency Vehicle Driver, stationed at Engine 6, on October 13, 1965. Alfred faithfully served his community for over 25 years before retiring on July 14, 1990.

Seeking to continue his service, Alfred found fulfillment as a security officer for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Campus, working with Broadway Services for over 15 years. His commitment to the safety and well-being of others shone through in this role as well, making a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals.

Outside of work, Alfred lived life to the fullest. An avid walker, he would stroll more than 4 miles each day at the local mall, keeping himself active and engaged. Family gatherings were always special to Alfred, and he delighted in playing poker with loved ones. His love for a little excitement led him to the local casinos and playing the lottery, always chasing the thrill of possibility. He was a dedicated fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Ravens, never missing a game. Alfred also had his favorite eateries in Dundalk, enjoying regular meals at the Boulevard Diner, Scoozi's, and Costa's.

Alfred was a devoted member of Our Lady Hope Church, finding solace and strength in his faith. Alfred cherished his family. He was a beloved brother to his sister Audrey Neukam and brother-in-law Joseph Neukam and the late Virginia Conroy, late Thomas Conroy Jr. and a dear uncle, great uncle, and cousin to many.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Alfred Wayne Conroy will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd. on December 30, 2023, at 11:00 am. Prior to the service, a memorial gathering will take place at the same location at 10:00 am, where friends and family can share memories and offer their condolences. On Saturday, January 6th there will also be a memorial mass to honor and remember Alfred at Our Lady of Hope Church at 11 am.

Alfred's loving spirit, dedication, and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
