It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" Gratz, a cherished father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully at the age of 88 on May 17, 2025.

Charles, known to many as "Charlie," had a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, serving with honor and dedication. Enlisting on October 13, 1967, he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT) and played a vital role during Desert Storm. His career took him to various places, including Panama, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and New Mexico, where he not only served in the military but also created lasting memories for those around him. As the person in charge of the NCO Club, he was renowned for organizing the annual Christmas party for the children on base-a cherished event that brought smiles to many.

Charlie's life was rich with laughter and love. He would often be found enjoying karaoke, sharing warm moments at family gatherings, or relishing crab feasts with loved ones. He had a passion for fishing and cherished the time spent with family and friends, making each moment memorable.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Gratz and Patricia Douglas (Bruce), as well as his grandchildren-Riley, Kara Gerstmyer (Alex), Bryan, James, and Laura Douglas. Charlie also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Liam and Lottie Gerstmyer, and his sisters-Helen "Babes" Kowaleski, Cecile Myrick, Rose Hart, Irene Kelly, Therese Sorrentino, and Carol Phillips-who will miss him dearly.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday May 21, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Rd. A funeral service will take place on Thursday May 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the same location, followed by a graveside service at St. Stanislaus Cemetery at 12:00 PM. Charles will be laid to rest with full military honors, recognizing his service and commitment to our country.
