It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Lee Evans, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on December 13, 1952, Darlene spent her life in Edgemere, Maryland, where her vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Eddie Evans, and her cherished children: son Ed Evans and his wife Kristen, and daughters Brynne Freedman and Lia Whelan and her husband Todd. Darlene's legacy as a nurturing mother and devoted wife will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Affectionately known as Dar Dar, Darlene took immense joy in her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren, Edris V, Addison, Claire, Gunner, Reece, Wells, and baby girl Whelan expected in December, were the light of her life. Her boundless love and joyful spirit brought warmth and happiness to every moment shared with them.
Darlene also shared a special bond with her faithful dog, Boomer, and found beauty in life's simple pleasures: days at the beach, tending to her garden, and the quiet wonder of butterflies. Her kindness, compassion, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members, including cousins, in-laws, nieces, and a nephew: Sally Becker, Kara Zondag, Andrea Filling, Dawn McPherson, Becky Nance, and Richard Evans Jr. Their memories of Darlene will be cherished always.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Friday September 19, 2025, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, with a memorial service at 7:00 PM. Join us in celebrating Darlene's vibrant life as we remember the joy she brought to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Darlene's name to…Chesapeake Bay Foundation, BARCS, SPCA or a charity of your choice.
In our fond memories of Darlene, we will always remember her for her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering love for family. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Bernhardt Kelch, Lillian Kelch and Sister, Cathy Duvall.
