It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Barrett after a courageous two year battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on May 16, 2026, at the age of 74. Lorraine was born on February 24, 1952 in Syracuse, NY, and her incredible journey through life will forever be cherished by those she touched with her warmth and compassion.

Lorraine's love story with her husband, Jim Barrett, began 55 years ago and blossomed into a beautiful marriage that lasted 52 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Lorraine was a devoted mother to her children, Kelly Tanner and her husband, Scott, and James D. Barrett Jr., nurturing their dreams and aspirations with her boundless affection. She took immense joy in being a grandmother to Annabelle Irene Tanner and A.J. Tanner, sharing with them the same love and kindness that defined her life.

She cared deeply about her siblings Charles Krause, Francine Ross, and Jeanette Sears and her husband Scott, with whom she shared many memories. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Daniel James Barrett, who left this world too soon in 1979, and by her devoted parents, Charles and Elizabeth Krause. Lorraine leaves behind a legacy that also includes numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember her fondly.

Throughout her career, Lorraine dedicated herself to working with the mentally disabled at the Arc of Onondaga, embodying empathy and advocacy for those in need. She found great fulfillment in her work, a testament to her selfless heart. Nature also held a special place in her life; her fondest memories were spent at Lake Ontario, where she found peace and contentment surrounded by her family. Family meant so much to her that, in her pursuit of closeness to her children and grandchildren, Lorraine made the move to Maryland, where her legacy continued to flourish.

A memorial gathering to honor Lorraine's life will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Wednesday May 20, 2026 from 6:00-7:00 pm. Followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm. The service will be livestreamed for anyone unable to attend. There will also be a memorial service in Syracuse, NY at a later date to be announced. Friends, family, and all who knew Lorraine are invited to join in celebrating her life, sharing stories, and remembering the wonderful moments that made her who she was.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, the Melanoma Research Alliance, or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
