Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Richard "Doc" Halle passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of the Baltimore area, Richard will be remembered for his generosity, ingenuity, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Born on January 4, 1942, Richard was a twin and the oldest of seven children born to Herman and Camille Halle. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Halle; his children, Jason Halle and Erin Halle Shannon; his twin sister, Regina Brown; and his sisters, Marilyn Halle Webster, Gail Wurzberger, Jean Halle, and Linda Novak. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane Halle Heck.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Following his military service, he built a successful career in sales, working for Bethlehem Steel from 1969 to 1980 and Clark Machines from 1980 until his retirement in 2013. An entrepreneur at heart, he also owned and operated several Battery Warehouse stores and combined his love of fishing with his inventive spirit by designing, manufacturing, and selling Lakemaster electric fishing motors.

Richard embraced life with enthusiasm and cultivated lifelong friendships through the activities he loved. He spent many years playing softball with Key Club Athletics and was an avid golfer who looked forward to every round with his close-knit group of friends. It was on one of their golf trips that he earned the nickname "Doc"-a story known only to Richard and the friends who faithfully kept its secret.

Fishing was one of Richard's greatest passions. His annual fall fishing trips to Canada with longtime friends became a cherished tradition, filled with laughter, incredible meals, and memories that carried them through the year. He also enjoyed shooting pool and took great pride in restoring a regulation antique pool table that became the centerpiece of countless games in his basement. Richard was equally known for his appreciation of good food, especially a perfectly cooked pork chop, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy a good buffet.

Perhaps more than anything else, Richard was a gifted craftsman. Whether working with wood, metal, engines, or construction projects, there seemed to be nothing he couldn't build, repair, or improve. His workshop was filled with every tool imaginable, and when the part he needed didn't exist, he simply made it himself. Family and friends knew that if something was broken, Richard would find a way to fix it.

Above all, Richard treasured his family. He led by example through hard work, determination, and a willingness to lend a helping hand. His legacy lives on in the countless things he built, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know and love him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard's life for a public viewing at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Monday July 20, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held the following day on Tuesday July 21st at 11:00 am. Followed by a graveside service at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 7225 Eastern Ave, Baltimore 21224.

Those wishing to honor Richard's memory are also encouraged to do something he would have appreciated: lend a helping hand, spend time with family and friends, or share a favorite story about "Doc" with someone who didn't have the privilege of knowing him.
