Obituary

Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth A. O'Connor who left us peacefully on May 15, 2026 at the age of 97. Born in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY, Ruth lived in Malverne until she was 21 years old.

She graduated from Malverne High School in 1946, where she was a remarkable student involved in countless activities. Known for her energy and dedication, Ruth received an award for excessive participation in sports and spent 15 years taking ballet and tap lessons. She was also a cheerleader and proudly served as captain of girls' sport night, along with being a member of the Honor Society in 1944.

Right after high school, Ruth joined the workforce at the National City Bank on Wall Street at just 17. She was a dedicated member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Malverne, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir from the age of 10. In 1949, she married her beloved husband, John O'Connor, at the same church where she had grown up.

In the same year, Ruth and John moved to Baltimore, MD, where she would continue to be a devoted member of the Dundalk Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Ruth had a deep love for the Bible, particularly the Psalms, which brought her comfort and joy throughout her life.

An avid bowler, Ruth's passion for the sport kept her active for over 20 years, participating in various leagues and making countless memories with friends on the lanes.

Ruth was the beloved wife to her late husband John J. O'Connor and loving mother to her sons Brian, Kevin and Alan O'Connor.

A public viewing will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Wednesday May 20, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 & 7:00-9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held the following day on Thursday May 21st at 11:00 am. Followed by a graveside service at Oak Lawn Cemetery, located at 7225 Eastern Ave., Eastfield, MD.
