Scott A. Nelsen

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Scott Arthur Nelsen, of Dundalk, Maryland passed away peacefully at home in his sleep. Beloved husband of Carol Anne Nelsen; cherished brother of Caryl Fletcher and her late husband, Ashton Fletcher, Jr; loving father of Melinda Lee Dunmire and her husband Damon, and Melissa Kauffman and her husband Johnathan. Adored uncle of Clayton Fletcher and his wife Amy, Ashton Fletcher, and Robert Fletcher and his wife Fai. Loving grandfather of Miranda Thompson and her husband Forrest, Jonathan Kauffman, James Kauffman, Julia Cancelli, Margo Cancelli, and Dakota Forsythe; adored granduncle of Tristen Lingelbach, Antonella Fletcher, and Aileena Fletcher; cherished stepfather of Melanie Reichard and her partner Clinton Brunt, and Vincent Cancelli and his fiance Sarah Forsythe. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy Alan Nelsen and Lillie Bankard Nelsen.

Scott lived in Dundalk nearly all of his life. He worked at Eastern Stainless Steel for 20 years. But when working, he was happiest behind the wheel of a truck. Big trucks were a life-long passion, and it was a dream come true when he finally had his own truck and became an owner-operator. He enjoyed long rides on the open road.

Above all, Scott loved his family. He enjoyed good food and dined out frequently with his wife and loved ones. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his nieces. He was a faithful fan at his grandsons' soccer games in their youth, and he adored the company of his granddaughters and his nieces. He had a special relationship with his sister, to whom he often turned for advice. He was also very close to her late husband, Ashton. He was deeply devoted to his wife. He enjoyed evenings in his den with his beloved dog, Rascal. He was always there for his daughters.

A highlight of the last year was the birth of his youngest granddaughter, Margo. In 2023, he was also happy to gain another granddaughter, Dakota, and to attend the wedding of his oldest granddaughter, Miranda. His grandsons graduated from high school, and his niece, Aileena, started first grade.

For decades, he was an avid N scale model train enthusiast who constructed elaborate layouts, and he had an interest in model cars and planes. He drove fast and liked "funny" cars and stock car races. His favorite racer was John Force, and 88 was his favorite number. He listened to classic rock and Howard Stern. He spoke fondly of childhood trips to Connecticut, his Uncle Irving, and a family friend, Uncle Frank. His favorite color was blue.

He enjoyed blueberry pancakes, DiPasquale's sandwiches, blackberries and whipped cream, no sugar added blueberry pie, and strawberry shortcake from Herman's Bakery. He wore shorts every day, no matter how cold. He woke most mornings around 6 am, and he was known for early morning trips to Dunkin Donuts for coffee with Equal.

He lived happily with his wife in the Queensway Cape Cod that was so dear to him, a home that had at one time belonged to his parents and where he had spent part of his childhood. His home was host to several generations of family over decades and has notably seen many magnificent Thanksgiving feasts. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday.

He was loving, independent, dependable, organized, and punctual. His car was always immaculate.

Part of his legacy is the "last supper" tradition that he started years ago. His family is grateful for this gift and tradition, one that they are happy to continue. In accordance with his wishes, his family will honor his life and recognize his passing privately.
