Timothy Shawn Underwood, 58, of Dundalk, passed away peacefully in his home alongside his family on July 21st, 2025.
Born on March 17, 1967, Tim was the 4th son to William Underwood, Sr. (Ted) and Gladys Underwood. He graduated from Dundalk High School, Class of 1985. At the time of his death, he was employed by Washington DC Fire Department Facility Maintenance.
Tim was a man who embraced life with endless passion and brought joy to everyone around him. He had a smile bigger than life that he passed on to his kids and would be there for anyone he loved at the drop of a hat. He was fiercely loyal and protective of his loved ones, just as much as he was a big kid who constantly had everyone laughing. As a die-hard Ravens and O's fan, he cheered on his teams with the same passion he brought to everything in life. One of his proudest titles is all the versions of "Poppy" and he had a knack for making any child or animal fall in love with him.
Tim was an avid softball player on many teams through the years, competing on both men's and co-ed teams. One of his favorite memories included skiing with family and friends at Seven Springs, a tradition proudly held through 5 generations of Underwoods. His love for adventure kept him in nature, from beach trips with family, to hitting hiking trails with kids, or spontaneous weekend getaways with his wife after packing up his red pickup truck with the precision of a Tetris game, which he inherited from his father.
All the kids loved Tim's imagination and his knack for turning cardboard boxes into spaceships. He showed up for Brod and Em's football and volleyball games, adding Tor's games to the mix as the family welcomed Brenda Ann into their lives; cheering them on and supporting them through all of life's pursuits. Being an extremely hard and dedicated worker came naturally to him as he provided for his kids as a single dad. He took his job as neighborhood Dad pretty seriously, too, and was a safe place for many. He was always willing to dress up for theme parties with his wife and they basked in the joy of being grandparents together. He even created his own backyard movie theater for his grandkids, complete with himself as ticket master in top hat and all.
Known as the "Grill Master," Tim cooked countless meals from his backyard grill for friends and family, with his specialty ribs being a particular favorite, always followed by stories around the fire pit. He never could resist a moment to show out on the air guitar or karaoke mic, and going to concerts like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Chris Stapleton, 3 Doors Down, and countless others, was one of his big joys.
Tim loved piddling around in his shed and was always building something out of nothing. He enjoyed delving into local Dundalk and Baltimore history, nerding out about it with his brothers and dad, drawing in the rest of the family for as long as they could. He also loved getting lost in his Clive Cussler novels. Tim cherished the tradition of giving out scratch-offs for Christmas and watching to see who won, as well as participating in outrageous Christmas games like the Saran wrap gift ball with the kids, traditions that the family looked forward to every year.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Brenda Ann, and cherished children: daughter Emily, son Brody, and stepdaughter Victoria Honaker (fiancé, James Colison). Tim is survived by his father, William (Ted) Underwood, Sr. and wife, Brenda; two brothers, Matthew and Randy and wife, Joyce; sister, Kelly; and step-brother, Jeffrey Edwards.
Timmy was proud of his blended family that included grandchildren Terry (aka "TT"), Steven, Danny, Marianna ("Sweet Pea"), Haislee, and Colson (aka "Biscuits"), as well as nieces and nephews Erin, Christopher, Eric, and William III; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys Underwood; brother, Billy Underwood (William Jr.); and stepson, Terry Honaker, Jr.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 30th at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk with viewings from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM, followed by the service at 8:00 PM.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for all the love, support, hugs, shared tears, and donations that have been given during this challenging time.
